Taking it to the house

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Here at the M Point of View, one of our favorite topics to cover is the little things that make a big difference here at the property. They’re not always the most glamorous things or the most visible things, and they probably aren’t things you’ll find other properties talking about. There’s a reason for that though – they’re the things that make M Resort special.

MicSo, here’s another one for you – in-house A/V. Okay, like we said, they’re not the most glamorous of things. When it comes to planning an event here at M though, like your wedding, family reunion, or a large-scale meeting/conference, it’s something you’re going to appreciate a whole lot. Why? A few different reasons. First and foremost, your bottom line. A lot of properties out there have outside audio/visual companies who deliver, install, operate and tear down their own equipment and guess what, it’s not cheap. Handling everything in-house means we remove a third party which results in savings that we can pass along to you.

SoundboardThose third parties bring us to our second point. When you’re planning your event and while your event is actually underway, do you want to rely on a third party? You’re already relying on the property where your event is being held so why throw someone else into the mix? When things go wrong, is the property going to pass the proverbial buck? “Sorry, that isn’t our equipment so you’ll have to take this up with them.” With an in-house A/V department added to the already extensive meeting, catering and special events departments, you’ll have Team Members from M every step of the way covering every aspect of your event. Your event essentially becomes our event, and believe us, we like our events to be flawless.

VideoProjectorYour event is important to you, to your family, your friends, your business and more. We know that and more importantly, we care about that. So remember when you’re making choices about where to stay, where to play and where to have your event, those little and perhaps no so glamorous things can make a big difference.

DragonDanceWe probably shouldn’t put this one up since you can’t see it anymore, but it was just too cool not to. Our Dragon & Lion Dance in celebration of Chinese New Year was spectacular! There are videos and more pics available on our Facebook page if you’re interested!

RavelloWallRavello Lounge isn’t just a great place to see live entertainment – it’s also home to some pretty amazing technology. Not only are there more than 40 screens built into the walls that can showcase the onstage entertainment, but the large panels next to the screens can be programmed to visually match audio beats and more through visual representation.

LavendarCakeSpring will be sprung in the not too distant future and you know what that means?! Wedding season. If you’re looking for a spectacular custom cake creation for your special day or other special occasion, we can make just about anything you can dream up.

BabyCakesTileAnd speaking of cake, let’s talk Baby Cakes. These are some of the custom tiles you’ll find here inspired by European patisseries. It’s the details that make all the difference, not to mention some unbelievably good pastries!

RestaurantTerraceWith warmer weather on the way, it’s almost time to start enjoying dining al fresco. Veloce, Marinelli’s, Terzetto and Hash House all feature great outdoor terraces where you can enjoy your meal, the weather and spectacular views of the pool area and Strip.

VeloceDrinksHmmm, what to enjoy out on the terrace? How about some of the amazing cocktails Veloce is offering for Happy Hour in their bar & lounge? Red Sangria, Peach White Sangria and Rocks Margaritas with a superb selection of top-shelf tequilas for just $5 are all excellent choices.

PumaImageBack to those details. When we have meeting/conference groups here with us at M, we do our utmost to show them we appreciate their choosing M Resort. From custom welcome messages on our marquee to these super-cool light-logos displayed in the water features behind check-in, we want you to feel welcome and appreciated.

MeetingsFixtureAnd when you’re in those meetings? Let’s face it, meeting rooms can be a bit dull at times, but like the rest of M, we did our best to incorporate some amazing fixtures and fittings that add a little extra something.

WovenMetalWallOkay, so more décor, but you have to admit this is cool. These backlit, woven-metal walls can be found outside Studio B and also inside Spa Mio.

MFamilyCareNobody likes to have to go to the doctor, but it sure is nice to have one right down the corridor. M Family Care is like any other doctor’s office, it’s just located inside M Resort!

When it comes to casino properties (and especially “locals” properties), there’s no shortage of competition here in Vegas. Here at M Resort, we do our best to be a standout among all those choices you have. With that in mind, we decided to put together a program that offers our guests age 50 plus with a variety of discounts and offers throughout the property, available every Wednesday beginning tomorrow, February 16. Star Power

bathtubblogSo it’s time for you to plan your vacation. Maybe you’re headed for the beaches of Hawaii, perhaps to the lights and glamour of New York City, sunny Florida or maybe even to fabulous Las Vegas. How do you decide which hotel you’ll stay at? Is it the price? Is it the value for the money? How about the amenities they offer? Is guest service important to you? What do you expect to find in your room? The list of questions can truly go on and on.

There’s no doubt you have an almost endless supply of choices when it comes to picking the hotel for your vacation, especially in “tourist destinations.” Many people (in fact most these days) begin their search for their vacation hotel online. The Internet is home to a bevy of travel rating websites. These can certainly be helpful, but they can also be a bit confusing. Why is it that Joe S. from Boston said “the room was amazing with a spectacular view and comfortable bed” and Donna G. from Sacramento said “mediocre view and the bed was stiff as a board”?

On these sites, you’ll find answers to pretty much every one of those questions you ask yourself before making a choice – a LOT of answers. The problem is there are so many conflicting opinions, experiences and points-of-view. How do you know when a source is credible? Do you trust Joe or Donna? Were they having a bad day? Were they having an amazing day? Did Joe get a freebie or comp from that hotel? Does that hotel actually advertise or have a partnership with the travel website and everyone’s getting a cut when you book your room?

What if there was a completely objective, independent, trusted source with more than 50 years of rating hotels for travelers? There is of course and it’s the Forbes Travel Guide, formerly the Mobil Travel Guide. Here’s what they have to say:

“Sorting through the scores of travel ratings in the marketplace today takes effort—many are biased and the source of information is a mystery. There is a proven, time-tested gold standard for hospitality ratings, and we invented it. Forbes Travel Guide provides travelers with the most objective, most disciplined ratings for hotels, restaurants and spas in the world. The hospitality industry respects and reveres the Five Star rating system, and consumers have put their faith in it for 50 years as they decide where to stay, dine or play.” http://www.forbestravelguide.com/

There are about 50,000 hotels in the United States and Forbes Travel Guide recommends just 3,000. That’s just six percent. The standards are incredibly high and the anonymous inspectors have hundreds of criteria to consider when it comes to rating a property. What that means to you as a consumer, is that when you choose a Forbes Travel Guide star-rated property, you know what you’re getting and you know it’s high-quality. It means the guest service is exceptional. It means the hotel is squeaky clean. It means the amenities are abundant and top-notch.

FTGlogoblogBottom line? Star ratings DO matter and you should absolutely consider them when choosing your hotel. Here at M Resort, we’ve got four and we’re looking for more. And don’t forget, when it comes to spas, Forbes Travel rates those too and Spa Mio just so happens to have four stars as well.

Big Game, Big Happenings

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

BigGameIt’s almost time for the Big Game and if you live here in Vegas or have visited during this time, you’ll know the Big Game means big happenings. At M Resort we’ll be blowing things out once again with tons of good stuff for our guests and of course lots and lots of TVs where you can catch all the action. It’s shaping up to be one of the best match-ups we’ve seen in a long time, so we want to make sure you’ve got everything you’ll need here at the property to make your super Sunday one to remember.

We’ll be hosting a property-wide Super Sunday Big Game viewing party on Sunday, Feb. 6 where the excitement is guaranteed to go beyond the sports book. View the game in a fun, upbeat atmosphere throughout the property with a live radio remote with KKLZ 96.3, prize giveaways including a ski trip and tickets to a professional football game, food and beverage specials and the lovely Budweiser girls.

Our celebration kicks off at 1 pm with a public viewing party inside Ravello Lounge. Equipped with 42 TVs, you can relax in the lounge’s comfortable seats while enjoying $10 buckets of Bud and Bud Light, $3 Cuervo Orange Margaritas on the rocks and $2 Cuervo shots. Stadium-style food specials start at 2 pm with favorites including hamburgers, buffalo chicken wings, Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches, potato chips and more available for purchase with items starting at just $1.50!

If you’re looking to stay close to the best race & sports book in Vegas or the casino gaming action you’ll find drink specials at 32 Degrees Draft Bar, Lobby Bar and M Bar. Lobby Bar will offer its standard food menu starting at Noon. Drink specials include:

  • $10 buckets of Bud and Bud Light 12 oz. bottles
  • $3 Cuervo Orange Margaritas on the rocks
  • $2 Cuervo shots

For those of you with a serious appetite, Hash House A Go Go will offer guests a big game special of  1 lb. stuffed Burgers and Fries with a domestic bottle of beer (or non-alcoholic beverage) or Two Giant Bratwursts with Fries with a domestic bottle of beer (or non-alcoholic beverage) for just $10.95. The restaurant will also offer additional beer and appetizer specials in the dining room from 3-11 pm.

For guests looking to bet on the game, the Cantor-operated race and sports book at the M Resort offers the perfect location. Guests are free to bet traditionally or use Cantor’s In-Running wager, allowing them to bet continuously throughout the game.

The fun doesn’t start or stop with the game however, as New Year’s Eve entertainment headliner Wes Quave returns for encore performances on Thursday and Friday from 9 pm to 1 am and Saturday from 6:30 pm to 2 am in Ravello Lounge.

We hope you’ll make M Resort your place for the Big Game! See you Sunday!

New Italian For You

Marinelli’s Italian restaurant here at the M Resort has just introduced their new Happy Hour menu to their bar and more than 20 new authentic Italian dishes and desserts to the dinner menu today! The Italian restaurant will also feature new entrees starting at just $19, and a new three-course pre fixe dinner menu available for just $32.

Marinelli’s Bar Happy Hour menu features seven antipasti items for just $7 and five specialty cocktails for just $5 daily from 4 pm to 10 pm. Favorites on the menu include the Italian Meatball Slider, pork and beef meatball, marinara and melted fresh buffalo mozzarella; Vongole Al Brodo, steamed fresh clams with garlic, herbs, wine and chili flakes and Fried Bocconcino, crispy fried mozzarella with creamy marinara sauce. Yum!

Since we’re talking delicious food at Marinelli’s, we thought we’d give you a behind the scenes peek at Marinelli’s Chef Sergio Santoro – here he is putting together a guest favorite you can easily make at home: Penne Alla Vodka Con Salsiccia.

Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit

Friday, January 28th, 2011

CNYblogChinese New Year is almost here and we here at M Resort are celebrating in style with all our guests. But first, a little about those of you born in the “Year of the Rabbit” (or Hare). If you were born in the following date ranges, you can consider yourself born in the “Year of the Rabbit”:

29 January 1903 – 15 February 1904
14 February 1915 – 2 February 1916
2 February 1927 – 22 January 1928
19 February 1939 – 7 February 1940
6 February 1951 – 26 January 1952
25 January 1963 – 12 February 1964
11 February 1975 – 30 January 1976
29 January 1987 – 16 February 1988
16 February 1999 – 4 February 2000
3 February 2011 – 22 January 2012

People born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. They are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. People born in the Year of the Rabbit seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of the Sheep, Pig, and Dog.

Now about that celebrating. As one of the only locals casinos celebrating the Chinese New Year, we’re inviting locals and tourists alike to celebrate the Chinese New Year with some with festive décor including tangerine trees, welcome banners, lanterns and 8 selections of Asian favorites like Satsuma, spring rolls, Beef Lo Mein and more at our award-winning Studio B Buffet beginning February 3. ChipFrontblog

In addition a Year of the Rabbit collectible chip is available for purchase at the casino cage for $8 while supplies last. The poker room will offer special promotions including flop four 8s and win $888, make four 8s and receive $88 and the first 88 players that make 8s receive a collectible Year of the Rabbit Gaming Chip. Plus, play live poker every day from 8:08 am to 8:08 pm and a random lucky player will receive $88.

On Friday, February 11, M will host a traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance performed by the Lohan School of Shaolin. The dance will include a 30-person assembly with a 63-foot dragon including adult and baby lion dancers, Buddhas, musicians and festive flags. It will begin in the lobby to chase away evil spirits, continue through the casino floor, past the High Limit Salon, buffet, poker room and table games and end back at the lobby.ChipBackblog

New Year, New Slots

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Slotsblog1If you’re a regular reader of the M Point of View, you may remember posts like “The Full Ethernet Floor” and “Your Favorite Games.” We’re talking slots which as you know are a big part of the casino floor here at M Resort. With about 1,900 slots here, you have plenty to choose from, including popular classics as well as the latest new games on the market. With it being a new year, we thought we’d talk about some of the latest trends in slots you’ll see in 2011 (and are already seeing).

Slotsblog3One thing you’re bound to see more of this year are slots with community bonuses. While they were introduced a while back, these types of slots have continued to grow in popularity. And why not? When one person wins, everybody wins!

You’ll also be finding more great popular culture themed games hitting casino floors. These games aren’t just restricted to a single time period either. Tarzan, Dirty Dancing, The Dark Knight, The Hangover, The Godfather and many more are on the way. Movies not your thing? Television is represented too with games based on popular shows like American Idol and a new Deal or No Deal themed slot.

Slotsblog2Perhaps the most significant trend for 2011 you’ll see however, is the expansion of interactive games which offer direct player input. Generally taking the form of bonus games, these slots ask players for more than simply selecting an item on a touch screen. Look for bonuses including mini-games where your skill and direct input have a bearing on the outcome. From spinning a virtual wheel and using pinball-like flipper action buttons, to fending off alien invaders and more, these slots will definitely make you a part of the action.

It’s not just the great new games and technology you’ll find on our casino floor that make M a great place to play slots, however. Natural light on the casino floor, 96 beers on tap just waiting for slot players to order, and let’s not forget an amazing player’s club with tons of free gifts and great comps are all things that make M a delight for players. There’s always something extra you get here at M too – great service. As a Forbes Four-Star property, you know the staff here is going to be top-notch. From our award winning M Girl cocktail waitresses to the technicians keeping those machines up and running, our Team Members are a big part of what will surely make your time gaming a pleasure.

An Art and a Science

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

breadblog7It comes in thousands of shapes and sizes and offers thousands of different tastes and textures. Here at M Resort, bread is something we do incredibly well. You won’t just find white or wheat here either. We’re talking Kalamata olive, ciabatta, traditional French baguettes and boules, flatbreads, pretzel breads, foccacia, pumpernickel and some sort of flat, cheesy, crispy delicious offering almost like a cracker that we just don’t know the name of, among many others. Here’s your fair warning now: If you dine in one of our restaurants it can be very difficult to stop eating the bread. (So don’t say we didn’t warn you and get all upset when you don’t have room for that Buffalo Rossini with foie gras, wild mushrooms, red onion jam and truffle sauce the chef so painstakingly prepared for you!)

breadblog1From plain white dinner rolls to the beautifully scored artisan loaves, there’s no doubt that baking bread is an art form. The bread you’ll find here is a whole lot more than a starchy filler – it’s actually incredibly pleasing to the eye. It looks great, it smells wonderful, it feels interesting, it tastes delicious and it even sounds enticing as your neighbor munches their way through the basket. As we’ve mentioned before, dining shouldn’t (and isn’t here at M) just about eating food. Dining is an experience that should encompass all your senses.

breadblog2Bread, however, is more than an art – it’s also a science and that science is primarily chemistry. Even the most experience bakers in the world will tell you how easy it is to mess up. The water temperature was off, the dough wasn’t kneaded properly (which causes all sorts of self-esteem issues later in life), over and underproofing and let’s not even get started on baking temperatures and times.

And what about pH? pH is the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution and when it comes to bread baking, that means the water used to create the dough. While it may seem trivial, water in different places around the world have different pH values. Here at M we “create” our own water on-site to make our breads and pastries. The pH of the water can be adjusted to match the pH of the water anywhere we’d like. New York-style bagels are made with water that matches New York and French baguettes are matched to Paris. Don’t think it makes a difference? Come and taste our bread.
