"The Frontlines" Charity Gift Day

The social media team decided that you might like to get an insider's look at some "frontline" jobs here at M Resort. Every department here at at the property has frontline team members directly interacting with guests, more than 1,300 team members in total hold these positions. Behind the scenes or on the frontline, we’re all responsible for providing the utmost in guest satisfaction and work hard at it every day. As the social media team, we’re jumping in and experiencing some of these jobs not only to find out for ourselves how things work, but also to give you a look too.

We recently worked the frontlines in our Casino Marketing department during one of our gift days. From setting up the gift day satellite computers to unloading and actually distributing the t-shirts to our guests – we did it all!

Here's a look at us working the Sept. 15 gift day benefitting Susan G. Komen. As we mentioned in an earlier post, every Wednesday this past September was a charity gift day. For each gift coupon redeemed and/or earned through play, M Resort donated $1 to Shade Tree, Hope Link, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Children's Heart Foundation and the American Red Cross .

Walkin' the Walk

At the M it's important for us to support our team members and the community where we live and work. So when the American Cancer Society approached us about creating an M team for their annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk our answer was a resounding "Yes!"

Many of our team members have personal stories about their loved ones' fight against breast cancer. From our warehouse department to our food and beverage department, breast cancer has affected our team members and their families.

This past Saturday, Oct. 2, more than 150 of our team members gathered bright and early (at 7 am!) to walk the 5K in support of a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays.

Leading up to event, everyone quickly got on board and we began to build our "pink wall" in our team member dining room. Even our M Gas Station rallied to support the cause. Store manager Sam Ali took it upon himself and his team to collect $1 for the American Cancer Society.

More than 11 million Americans who have a history of cancer will celebrate another birthday this year. Through our team members' efforts, we raised more than $15,000 and we were in the Top 4 companies for fundraising. Great job team! We're proud to celebrate more birthdays.

Gift Days for Charity

If you're a player at M Resort you'll know that our gift days are pretty popular. We give away everything from wine and desserts to apparel and bags and more. This month, those free gifts are also helping out some charities and in turn, those in need.

We've partnered with Shade Tree, Hope Link, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Children's Heart Foundation and the American Red Cross in September to help provide them with some extra cash in support of their worthy causes. Every Wednesday in September is a Charity Gift Day and for every gift day coupon redeemed or gift earned through play, M Resort donates a dollar to that day's sponsored charity up to $4,000.

Tomorrow, Wednesday September 15 will be in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since their inception in 1982, Komen for the Cure has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer - transforming how the world talks about and treats the disease and helping to turn millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors.

M Resort is proud to partner with Susan G Komen for the Cure Southern Nevada Chapter for our Charity Gift Days promotion tomorrow and we hope you'll join us in supporting this worthy cause as well as the other amazing charities we've partnered with this month. The Gift Distribution is held at the iMagine Rewards Center located next to the Vice Shop from 9am - 9pm.

Are You Hungry?

As you've probably gathered from many of our posts, food is one of the cornerstones of the M Resort. Food brings people together and helps nourish the hungry. It's hard to imagine that nearly 250,000 men, women, children and seniors in Southern Nevada struggle with hunger. One of the organizations the M is proud to support is Three Square Food Bank. If you haven't heard or don't know about Three Square they are Southern Nevada's only food bank and provide bakery, produce, dairy, non-perishable products and ready-to-eat meals to non-profit and faith-based organizations. They also facilitate childhood and senior nutrition programs. We have supported Three Square in many ways and are proud to say that with the help of the Sun City Anthem Women's Club (who we also do a great deal with) we've helped provide nearly 19,000 meals! It's important for the M Resort and our team members to give back and to be out in the community where we live and work.

A few months ago, Three Square asked if Chef Tina Martini could be a featured chef at their Stone Soup Dinner. If you know Chef Tina she was elated to help! So, this past Tuesday, Chef Tina was the featured chef at Stone Soup. The dinner recognizes donors, agency partners and everyday people who help in the fight against hunger. Each month, Three Square invites a chef to do a fun demonstration and share soups of their choosing and the legend of stone soup. You know… the story of the traveler who comes up on a village where the people have little to eat. He tells them of his secret to make soup from stone and encourages each member of the village to bring what they have, no matter how small. Pretty soon they are all eating and dancing. In the end, the traveler showed them that through sharing there is plenty for all. The evening hit particularly close to home for Chef Tina who shared with everyone her personal story:

I was motivated by hunger awareness very early on, as my mother's family was very impoverished. She had little to eat and spent most of her time as a child malnourished. Because of this, she lost all her teeth by the time she was 18. She suffered with poor health her entire life. I started going to shelters in and around my home town of San Diego and cooking for the holiday dinners. I also began baking dinner rolls and making mini sandwiches for the after school lunch programs. Kids really rely on the meals they get in school. The after school lunch programs prevent these kids from going hungry on the weekends and during summer break. I am so grateful for the opportunity to help fight hunger in my new home town. As a chef it is my responsibility, as I see, it to feed hungry people. Working with Three Square Food Bank has shown me that when people come together for no other reason than compassion and sharing, we can heal each other in ways we've never thought. Remember the legend of the stone soup…sharing assures we'll all have enough.
