As we’ve mentioned before, it’s ‘all about the menu’ at our restaurants and we’ve got a whole new one to share with you. Think big juicy steaks and seafood platters on ice. Do we have your attention yet? If not, just take a look at these photos and try not to drool on your keyboard.

Sautéed Wild Mushrooms, Tater Tots and Grilled Summer Zucchini

Filet Mignon, 9 oz. wet aged 21 days

When one door closes, another one opens. Anthony’s Prime Steak & Seafood Restaurant will make its official debut this Friday, in place of Terzetto, and just in time for Father’s Day (hint, hint). The kitchen will be churning out prime wet-aged steaks, king crab legs and many more of our President Anthony A. Marnell III’s personal favorites. Our personal favorite is the Peanut Butter Pie, so be sure to save some room for dessert.

Anthony’s Shellfish Bounty, lobster, shrimp, king crab, oysters on ice

The restaurant’s elegant, yet casual, dining space will offer the perfect atmosphere to wine and dine Dad, or anyone else worthy of a mouth-watering meal. In fact, here’s a little fun fact if your dad is a baseball fan: the restaurant’s design was inspired by Anthony’s own worn baseball. You’ll see touches of warm gold and beige along with masculine elements of mahogany wood and marble throughout the restaurant.

The extensive menu even includes selections from the Marnell’s own private wine label. So grab a seat in a plush banquette or a table on the terrace with a striking view of our expansive pool deck, order a filet mignon and pair it with a nice Cabernet Franc from the Marinelli’s label.

Peanut Butter Pie

We do love our happy hour here at M and Anthony’s Steakhouse will be no exception, their happy hour will be nightly from 5-7pm in their bar and lounge area. A selection of tasty half-priced appetizers including shrimp cocktail, prime steak spring roll and more are available along with $5 cocktails and $3 bottled beers.

Be one of the first to test out our newest dining endeavor and make your reservations today by calling (702) 797-1000. Anthony’s will be open for dinner from 5-10 pm Sunday-Thursday and 5-11 pm Friday-Saturday.

It’s a desert out here in Vegas and the first thing to take a beating is your skin. Even if you’re not lounging by our luxurious pool, the dry desert climate in the warmer months can affect your skin. Lucky for you we have someone to help. Melanie, an esthetician at our four-star awarded Spa Mio right here at the M shared with us some great tips and tricks to keep your complexion up-to-par.

Switch it up and moisturize

Switching up your routine is important since some people’s skin can get more oily or dry in the warmer months. According to Melanie, regardless of your skin type your moisturizer should be switched to one that is lighter, but still hydrating. And if you don’t use moisturizer? Well that’s a big no-no (for guys too.) Our spa offers a wide array of products that will do the trick from Comfort Zone to Obagi.

Get yourself some gel

A gel mask is a great way to rehydrate the skin for any skin type. It feels great but also works to naturally stimulate the skin’s cell-renewal leaving it appearing instantly smoother, shine-free and more radiant. Melanie, or any of our expert estheticians, would be happy to apply one during a service at Spa Mio.

Always wear sunscreen

We know you’ve heard this before but, the most important part of skincare is sunscreen. If you want to help fight wrinkles it’s always important to incorporate SPF into your daily skincare routine.

For those of you who like do-it-yourself beauty, Melanie says using a face mask from avocados (yum) can rehydrate if you’re prone to dry skin. If you have oily skin, pure Aloe can be used to do the same.

Imagine your ideal Vegas vacation, all the details are taken care of, right down to the last drop of your martini (Grey Goose, one olive, shaken not stirred). There’s not a care in the world except the outcome of your next roll at the tables and pull at the slots. Our concierges make this happen for guests at M. Our team can craft an exceptional and unique experience that incorporates all quintessential Vegas things that a vacationer, such as yourself, must see and taste both at our resort and in the city. We know there’s a lot to explore so we’re offering tips for the entire city (and any budget) because we want you to have the best Vegas experience that you possibly can.

Dining
Vegas has turned into a culinary mecca in recent years, but we know not everyone has the palette (or pocketbook) for a Michelin-star meal.

Fun and Funky – Have a sweet tooth that needs satisfying? Baby Cakes, our European-inspired patisserie will have you loosening your waistband after sampling pastries and homemade gelato from our world-renown pastry chef Jean Claude Canestrier. His delightful creations are just as beautiful as they are delicious. We suggest his new line of cupcakes with selections like Peanut Butter Cup, Coconut Pineapple and Red Velvet or stick to a traditional sundae, it’s just a delicious! If in the heart of the famous boulevard is more your style, Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace offers a whimsical and wacky menu that will bring out the kid in you. Sip on a Frozen Hot Chocolate, feast on a triple-decker grilled cheese and finish it all off with a deep-fried Oreo sundae (and then some Tums).

One-of-a-kind – So you won big at baccarat and want to please your inner foodie (and oenophile), Charlie Palmer’s Aureole at Mandalay Bay will entertain all senses. Boasting a wine tower with over 10,000 choices and ‘Wine Angels’ who ascend said tower to retrieve your selection makes this one of those “only in Vegas” dining adventures. If 10,000 bottles isn’t enough for you, you can check out the variety of vinos from around the globe offered at Hostile Grape. While there are no ‘Wine Angels,’ there are fancy machines that pour the wine for you in one, three or five ounces. Choose from more than 160 wines by the glass and enjoy those sips in an atmosphere that screams hip – we’re talking broken wine barrels for the ceiling – how cool is that? With that many selections it’s a wine bar that appeals to both the wine novice and the newbie.

A Feast Fit for a King – Now, we don’t want to brag too much, but we do have to mention our killer buffet, Studio B Buffet. With more than 200 dishes served daily this is one Vegas buffet that should not be missed and not just because of the food, the price also includes unlimited beer and wine! Can you say bargain?

Other Experiences
Must-see attractions line Las Vegas Boulevard. The Bellagio fountains seem to top most tourists’ to-do lists, but there are many more things hidden in plain sight that are just as show stopping as the fountains themselves.

Retro Vegas – Ever wonder where old neon signs go to die? The Neon Boneyard, of course. Located just off the Strip (hey, so are we) is the Neon Museum of Las Vegas. It is home to more than 150 old signs that once graced Vegas’ streets of yesteryear. For a more simple (but essential,) retro experience, enjoy a shoeshine fit for a president from the M’s very own resident shoe shiner Heather Holton.

One-of-a-kind – Love a good view? Good, so do we. Take a short elevator ride up to Veloce Cibo. At 400 feet higher in elevation than the hotels on the Strip, you couldn’t ask for a better view of the Strip and of the entire Las Vegas Valley. The stellar views and killer terrace can’t be beat. Tucked inside Mandarin Oriental is their lobby bar, Mandarin Bar. It’s an escape from Vegas, within Vegas. Offering panoramic views of the Strip but perched high on their 23rd floor you escape the chaos below from the city that never sleeps. For another escape,

Vegas offerings are extensive so ask your concierge for more suggestions and any (or all) of these recommendations can be pre-arranged for your enjoyment by one of our award-winning concierges. Stop in and say hi when you’re here for a visit. They’d be glad to assist you.

With our new Happy Hour Guarantee program it’s no wonder we’ve got drinks on our mind. From Vodka cocktails to Candy cocktails we thought it was time to have a chat with Maureen Keefe, one of our beverage managers, to talk about all those glorious libations and our beverage program here at the M.

What’s hot right now when it comes to the beverage world?
For us at the M it’s all about our Candy Cocktails. We just introduced a new line of six cocktails in our Lobby Bar, M Bar, and Ravello Lounge and they’ve become our most popular drinks. They’re fun – they taste delicious and have great names like Liquid Snickers. Plus, with the new Happy Hour 24/7 program they’re a great price at just $5. A typical specialty cocktail can cost upwards for $10-$12-$15 so $5 is a bargain price.

On an industry level, there a lot of new trends that we’re seeing like herb-infused cocktails, organic wines, food-beer pairings and mico-distilled/artisan liquor. When it comes to trends though ultimately the guests dictate what they like and want to see on the menu. Most people are very specific about how they like their cocktails, even the classics and we are always happy to customize cocktails.

What makes the beverage program here at the M unique?
For us, it’s all about the personalized service. A cocktail is a cocktail and yes there are variations of it at different places and everyone has their signature drink, but at the end of the day, the thing that separates the M from anywhere else is our service. Our bartenders will know your name and remember what you like to drink.

How often do we change our drink menu?
We try to keep our drink menus fresh and typically change out drinks every six months or so. We might not change the entire menu, but we continually add new drinks. We just added six exciting new draught beers at 32 Draft Bar and of course the Candy Cocktails are all new too.

Tell us more about the Candy Cocktails. Is there actual candy in them?
More like candy on them. The majority of the cocktails are garnished with candy and with one of the cocktails, our Cotton Candy Cocktail, we actually drop cotton candy in it.

There are six cocktails that make up the Candy selection:

Liquid Snickers: Stoli Vanil, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, Castries Peanut Rum, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka, garnished with a Snickers

Peanut Butter Cup Martini: Castries Peanut Rum, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka, garnished with a peanut butter cup

Almond Joy: Amaretto, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, Malibu Rum, Pinnacle Whipped Cream Vodka

Milky Way Martini: Stoli Vanil, Godiva Chocolate Liqueur, Bailey’s Irish Cream, Butterscotch Liqueur, Splash of Cream

Jelly Bean: Blackberry Brandy, Anisette

Cotton Candy Martini: Three Olives Bubble Vodka, Amaretto, Peach Schnapps, Cranberry Juice, Sour and Sprite, garnished with cotton candy

What is the process for creating a new drink?
We’re open to lots of ideas when it comes to creating new drinks. Ideas come from our bartenders, our mixologists and our entire beverage team. We test out new ideas and once we’ve narrowed down the ones we taste test them with our team.

The M Fantasy. M's most popular specialty cocktail.

That sounds like quite the good time.
It absolutely is, but it’s also real work. We want to create the best drinks that we can and bring those to the guests. We might love them, but we also have to think about what our guests will like and what will appeal the most to them.

How many bartenders does the M currently have?
We have approximately 60 bartenders at the M that are spread among our five bars and now the pool.

What drink is the #1 seller at the M? Since we opened our #1 seller is the M Fantasy. It has Stoli Blueberi Vodka, Silk Road Plum Sake and muddled blueberries.

We have to ask. What’s your favorite drink?
I can’t pick a favorite but I can pick three favorites. My favorite draught beer is Smithwicks, we just added it to 32 Draft Bar. I would have to say my favorite cocktail is the Almond Joy Candy cocktail. I also really enjoy tasting a variety of red wines from our Enomatic machines at Hostile Grape.

If you read our blog (which we hope you do!) you’ll know that a few weeks ago we launched a contest. We asked people to show us they were happy by submitting a photo of themselves enjoying our new Happy Hour Guarantee here at the M. We would pick our two favorites and award the winners with a $50 gift card each.

Well, the time has come to announce our winners! It wouldn’t be polite to not acknowledge everyone who submitted photos, so thank you to those of you who read our blog and who submitted photos for our contest.

But we did have two favorite photos and we’re excited to announce the winners so without further ado the winners of our Show Us You’re Happy photo contest are….Linda B and Roseann H!

Sex in the City party at Hostile Grape. Photo courtesy of Linda B.

Linda was one of the first to submit her photo and had the largest group of friends in it! Can you spot your favorite Sex in the City character? Turns out, the group had a Sex in the City themed party for Linda’s singles group inside the Hostile Grape. According to Linda, the group was supposed to dress up like their favorite character!

“Most of us enjoyed the appetizers and bought a $25 wine card. It was great! I don’t like a lot of wines, so it was a fun and inexpensive way to try many wines before I found my favorite,” Linda commented.

——-

Roseann and her husband Tracy celebrating Roseann's birthday inside Lobby Bar. Photo courtesy of Roseann H.

Roseann was one of the last to submit a photo of herself and her husband Tracy. The twosome, along with their good friend, Dave, who flew in from Rochester, and a large group of family, were celebrating Roseann’s and Dave’s birthday here at the M when they snapped this quick photo.

According to Roseann, the birthday celebration wasn’t even the best part of the evening. “My sister and her husband, my mom and her boyfriend and another couple joined us, but the best part was that our son who is an active member of the United States Air Force flew in to surprise me for my birthday! He is now 21 so it was the first time he had ever been to happy hour with us.”

We think experiencing the M’s Happy Hour Guarantee is a great first time happy hour! Thank you for the photos Linda and Roseann and we hope you had a great time with your friends and family at our resort.

We think it’s about time for you to be happy.

Happy Hour 24/7 at the M

$5 drinks
$3 bottled beer
1/3 off bottled wine
All day. Every day.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here at the M we’re breaking out our Irish Whiskey and Guinness beer to celebrate a beloved holiday that doesn’t even require that you have a drop of Irish blood in you!

We could talk about the history of the holiday or about its association with the color green, but instead we decided it would be a lot more fun to talk about the drinks! We compiled a guide to some of our Irish-inspired beer and cocktails that you can find throughout our property. Here goes:

32 Draft Bar with 96 beers on tap

Let’s start with the good ol’ beer. We know you have the classic choice of Guinness but for those looking to branch out, 32 Draft Bar, our bar for the consummate beer lover, recently added several new beers, coincidentally in time for St. Patrick’s Day! Here’s a look at some of the new additions inspired by the Irish.

Smithwick’s: The original amber ale from Ireland. While this beer is clearly an Ale it takes characteristics from both Ale and Lager styles. Clean and smooth with rich malts.

Wexford Irish Cream: The authentic Irish Ale dates back to 1810 from Wexford. Brewed using the original family recipe with Irish malt and hops, Wexford has a smooth mellow creaminess.

Murphy’s Irish Stout: Brewed from all natural ingredients; smooth and creamy, with a subtle bitterness. The blackish color comes from a difference in process at the roasting stage.

Lucky Leprechaun Specialty Cocktail

If ales and stouts just aren’t your thing, don’t worry. All our bars also feature our Lucky Leprechaun specialty cocktail, which promises to bring out the Irish in ya. Made with Baileys, Frangelico and a dash of green crème de menthe it’s a classic and we venture to say, it’ll bring you some luck.

We don’t think you’ll have any problem finding a drink you’ll enjoy, but if the above choices still don’t have you inspired, perhaps our price point will. Even on St. Patrick’s Day, our Happy Hour 24/7 still applies – meaning that Lucky Leprechaun specialty cocktail and that Jameson Whiskey are just $5, along with all our other premium drinks. And those bottled beers of Guinness (and all other bottled beers) they’ll run you just $3 – at every bar, all the time, every day.

So, raise your glass and cheers to good health! Slainte!

March is a jam-packed month. In just 31 days we’re celebrating Spring Break, March Madness, Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s, not to mention it’s Daylight Saving Time and we’ll be ushering in the first day of Spring. Although these events are important, the 75 degree weather we’ve been enjoying in Vegas has us thinking of just one thing…the start of Vegas pool season! We can almost smell the suntan lotion and chlorine….

Here at the M, our pool season started yesterday. The new furniture is out, our bar is stocked and our team members are trained. We decided that with the warm weather we’d open our smaller pool, DayDream, for those looking to get a jump start on their tan. Our official pool season begins April 1 when we open our main pool deck and April 16 when we turn DayDream into our adults-only pool, 21+ but not European.

To get you ready for the Vegas pool season, we thought we’d provide you with a few pointers on how to party poolside in Vegas. We’d love to hear your tips and pointers too!

Go local. If you’re visiting Vegas and want a different experience apart from the crowds go local. There are plenty of options (like the M, wink, wink) that are just a few miles from the Strip that provide beautiful pools, amenities and service – often at a much better price.

Reserve a cabana. If you are planning to make a day of it, we suggest paying the extra money for a cabana. These covered areas are great retreats from the sun and usually come equipped with plush sofas, flat-screen TVs, sound systems, refrigerators, misters and sometimes even your own personal attendant. Here at the M, you can even receive an in-cabana massage from our four-star spa if you’re willing to spend a little extra money.

Use sunscreen. If you’re visiting our wonderful sun-filled city for the first time, the Vegas sun is relentless. Plan accordingly and bring sunscreen. You don’t want to be sitting in your hotel room with a bottle of aloe while your friends are getting ready to head out for a night on the town.

Bring friends. Everything is better if you have a buddy…or two. The cabanas are usually large enough to fit 8-10 people, so split the costs and have a great afternoon with your friends.

Celebrate responsibly. Remember, drinking in the sun will get you inebriated faster than normal. Be respectful of others and responsible when it comes to consuming alcoholic beverages and always off-set with water.

Choose wisely. There are plenty of options for pools in Vegas – local, Strip, club, European, family. If you want to make sure you have a good time, do your research. Check the pool websites, chat forums and call the venues to make sure you know about the costs and the atmosphere upfront. The last thing you want is to show up ready for a family day at the pool only to realize the pool is European.

Current pool hours (until our grand opening) here at the M are 10-6 pm daily (operation out of DayDream). Call 702-797-1800 for more pool information.

Tuesday, December 21, 2010 is a day unlike any other we’ll see in our lifetime because two astronomical events conspired to occur together – the winter solstice and a total lunar eclipse. You may recall from our earlier blog post back in June “Summer is here…officially,” that a solstice is when sun stands still in declination, that is the apparent movement of the sun’s path north or south comes to a stop before reversing direction. In astronomical terms, the winter solstice means the Earth’s axial tilt puts us (in the Northern Hemisphere) as far away from the sun as we’re going to get this year while our friends in the south are enjoying the balmy weather of mid-summer.

Well, solstices certainly aren’t a rarity since we have two every year – winter and summer. But last night, we also experienced a total lunar eclipse. There are at least two lunar eclipses each year, though they’re usually partial. The total lunar eclipse is a much less common event. What’s a lunar eclipse? Well, it’s when the shadow of the earth “covers” the moon. This can only happen when the sun, earth and moon are perfectly aligned or nearly so with the earth in the middle. Unlike a solar eclipse which can only be viewed in a relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse can be viewed from anywhere on the “nightside” of earth. Now while our little planet isn’t able to make the moon disappear in its shadow, the effect can still be quite dramatic, as the moon often turns a lovely shade of copper as it did last night.

What makes today so special is the fact that these two events occurred on the same day. A total lunar eclipse and the winter solstice falling on the same day hasn’t happened since 1638 and as far as historians and astronomers know, that’s the only day this has happened in the last 2,000 years.
