Since we don’t all sit in the lap of luxury, it is satisfying to know that there are things we can enjoy without reaching too deeply into our wallets. One of those things is wine. We spoke to our Head Sommelier, Erin Gleason, about the best bang for your buck wines we have available at our four star resort.

Pinot Grigio

Our best and most affordable Pinot Grigio is by BENVOLIO™ from the Friuli region in Italy. It is one hundred percent Pinot Grigio and is vibrant on the palate with crisp notes of lemon and citrus fruit, balanced with a clean and refreshing finish. It is an outstanding drink before dinner or a terrific choice to pair with grilled chicken or risotto dishes and fish, including sushi. It is available by the glass in both Marinelli’s and the Hostile Grape, our award-winning wine bar. It’s also available by the bottle in both Marinelli’s and Anthony’s Prime Steak at just $38, which is almost unheard of in a fine dining restaurant.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon by Roots Run Deep Winery is rich, ripe, and focused with juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, cocoa and hints of mint tied together with a cream French vanilla middle and lingering finish. It is a full bodied wine with more concentrated fruit. It’s perfectly paired with lamb and at $44 a bottle at Anthony’s, Marinelli’s, the Hostile Grape, M Bar, and 32º Bar, it makes our Best Bang for your Buck Wines list. In addition, we have it available by the glass for just $12.

Chardonnay

A by Acacia Chardonnay from Carneros, California gets help from the Pacific Ocean winds for its flavorful notes. With your first taste, a bright acidity will mingle on the palate before turning rich and creamy on the finish. Crisp and clean citrus and tropical fruit notes are nicely balanced with buttery notes. Available at both of our fine dining restaurants, it pairs nicely with the King Salmon from Anthony’s or the Chicken Francese from Marinelli’s. At $35 a bottle and $9 a glass, it’s the perfect ending to our Best Bang for your Buck Wines list.

Have you tried any of these wines? Let us know your thoughts and if another affordable favorite should have made our list. And, just a reminder, when you purchase a bottle of wine from Anthony’s, Marinelli’s, or Hostile Grape, you’ll receive 1/3 off!

Mother’s Day is a special time of year when we celebrate and pay homage to all the moms in the world. Often the hardest part about Mother’s Day is planning the most perfect day for her. So we put together some options for you…in four-star resort style. Here’s a look at our picks for the perfect day for mom:

Pampering

Spa Mio, our award-winning four-star spa and salon, offers the perfect opportunity to provide mom with the spa day she’s always wanted but may have never asked for. With services like manicures, pedicures, massages and facials and packages for moms who are short-on-time, like The Mommy Express package, or for moms who would enjoy an entire spa day, like our Mio Relaxation Day package, Spa Mio has options to suit any budget and any mom. Plus, anytime you book a service at our spa, you also receive full access to our spa amenities for the day including the steam room and sauna. If you’re just not sure what she’d like, purchase a Spa Mio gift card and leave the choice up to her.

Dining

If you’ll be taking Mom out this Mother’s Day, relax to the soothing sounds of live piano while enjoying a delicious Italian brunch at Marinelli’s, our Italian restaurant. Presenting a three course brunch with choice of appetizer, entrée and White Chocolate Mousse with Raspberry Gelee for dessert, Marinelli’s will provide Mom with a taste of Italy at its finest. Ghalib Ghallab will add to this special day playing the piano all afternoon. For a special touch, request a song for Mom!

A Custom Gift

Now if your mom loves our resort (which we hope she does), we recommend creating a custom gift basket full of some of the best items our resort has to offer…after all, you could say “M” is for Mom…Fill it with a gift card to our resort, a wine card or better yet, a bottle of her favorite wine from the Hostile Grape, a sweet treat from Baby Cakes (they offer take home pints of gelato), Spa Mio candles (they are pure soy in scents like Love Spell and Green Tea) and maybe even bed sheets from Spa Mio (trust us, they are amazing!).

Do you have other ideas for pampering Mom at our resort? Or are you planning the perfect four-star Mother’s Day for your mom? We’d love to hear how you’re planning to pamper Mom – comment below!

At the M Resort, we consider true, four-star guest service an art form. Hours are spent each and every day preparing for our guests to arrive at our resort. After all, it is our job to make you feel welcome! We look for the little things. Are you celebrating an anniversary or perhaps a birthday? Do you need connecting rooms for your children? Are you here for your honeymoon? Allow us to share with you what we do to make guests, like yourself, feel special.

Though the interaction may be brief, the guest experience begins in Valet with our Guest Services team. They make it their job to know your name, especially if you frequent our resort. They will assist you with your luggage and perhaps offer you a bottle of water should it be another hot day in Las Vegas. They will even escort you inside to the Front Desk or at minimum, will direct you there.

A special touch from our Front Desk to one of our guests celebrating their wedding.

Once you arrive at the Front Desk, you’ll be greeted with a smile by one of our fantastic front desk agents. What you may not know, is the night before our front desk team scanned reservations arriving the next day to find out if anyone was celebrating anything special. If availability permits, we’ll pre-assign your room. It isn’t unheard of to receive a card with cupcakes for your birthday or chocolate covered strawberries for your anniversary from the front desk agent who checked you in.

Those little touches might even extend to your dinner. Maybe you are here celebrating your anniversary and our Concierge recommended Anthony’s Prime Steak & Seafood, our award-winning fine dining restaurant. Because our Concierge noted on your reservation that you are here celebrating your wedding anniversary, the hostess might seat you near the window so you can indulge in a view of our main pool deck, Villaggio Del Sole and the Las Vegas Strip. Once you reach the end of your meal, the waiter may bring out a special dessert tasting with “Happy Anniversary” written out in chocolate ganache for you to enjoy.

These are a few of the little things we like to do at our resort to create the ultimate four-star guest experience. From beginning to end we take care to make you feel special because as one of our guests, you are special! Let us know if you’ve experienced the little things while here at our resort.

Most of us would rather head to the store to purchase our favorite brand of pasta then bear down in the kitchen to make our own. The art of pasta making is an old world tradition originating from Italy. It is estimated that Italians eat over 60 pounds of pasta per year! This number beats Americans by 40 pounds.

At Marinelli’s, our Italian restaurant, we make a variety of pasta daily for our guests to enjoy. So, how exactly do we make fresh pasta? The ingredients list is quite short. Only three ingredients are needed – flour, eggs, and a bit of salt if you prefer. The debate among culinary professionals rests on the number of eggs, egg whites, or just egg yolks. “The recipe that we use at Marinelli’s is egg yolk only, which I feel gives the pasta a nice color and great texture,” says Chef Mark, Assistant Room Chef in Marinelli’s.

In the traditional manner, after the flour is sifted, a mound is made with the flour and the inside flattened into a bowl shape. Eggs would then be broken into the “bowl.” The eggs are carefully beaten, gradually adding more and more flour from the rim of the “bowl” until it’s completely combined and the dough is a smooth texture. Next the dough is kneaded for as much as 15 minutes before being rolled and cut.

According to Chef Mark, the technique used by our culinary team to cut the pasta depends upon the pasta shape itself. Both the gnocchi and cavatelli are rolled out by hand; however, only the gnocchi is hand cut. Our cavatelli is run through a special machine to give it its special shape. (For inquiring minds, cavatelli is small, shell-like shaped pasta which is curved inwards and gnocchi is an Italian potato base dumpling.)

At Marinelli’s, we make our Ricotta Gnocchi, Cavatelli Amatriciana, Wild Mushroom Tortelloni, and Four Cheese Ravioli in house daily or every other day, depending upon demand. For our stuffed pastas, we make the fillings in-house and then proceed to stuff the pasta that we also make fresh daily in-house. In addition, our Lasagna utilizes the same pasta that we use for our stuffed pastas. With the many different shapes pasta takes on, it is no wonder that making it has become an art form.

If you don’t have the time to make your own pasta, we encourage you to come down and try some of ours. Marinelli’s serves homemade pasta from rigatoni to ravioli, not to mention the tasty entrees above, daily starting at 5 pm.

It’s that time of year again. The battle lines have been drawn regarding what resort, restaurant, bar, and more are the best in Las Vegas. For a different take, we thought we’d bring you some of our “Best Of” property picks.

Best View of the Las Vegas Strip

At 400 feet above the strip, our view of the valley is more than incredible – it’s spectacular. There is nothing like Fourth of July in one of our Strip side rooms. Not only can you see the fireworks spewing off the top of the Stratosphere, but also in almost every neighborhood and city park in the valley, too. The view is nothing short of amazing. When Vegas experiences one of its many summer lightning storms, it gets even better. You can enjoy Mother Nature from inside your comfy hotel room as the lightning stretches from the clouds above to the ground below.

Best Suite

If you’ve taken a look through our website, we have three different suite layouts available for our guests to enjoy. Though the Loft Suite is award-winning and the largest at 2,400 square feet, we think our smallest suite, the Classic, may just be the best. First, it’s functional. At 1,100 square feet, its rectangular shape allows for rollaway beds should you need them for additional guests and it offers a most comfortable couch with a chaise lounge not available in our other suites. Second, the bar area is located over marble instead of carpet. So if anyone has too much fun, the spillage ends up on the marble instead of the carpet (which means no room damage fee). You add that up with a 15th floor view of the Las Vegas Strip, and you have not only the Best Suite, but the Best View, too.

Best Drink

We asked our Beverage Manager, Ziggy Pawlowski, and he says that even after four years, the M Fantasy is still the best selling drink off of our specialty menu – hands down. So, what makes it the best? If Stoli Blueberi Vodka, Silk Road Plum Sake and muddled blueberries don’t get you excited, it’s also topped with an edible orchid. It’s sweet, smooth, and it’s gorgeous!

Best Dessert

Although our vanilla crème brulee is our best-selling dessert, we think our absolute best dessert is our Peanut Butter Pie. It’s rich. It’s decadent. It’s sinful. Your taste buds will be screaming with delight after just one bite. It’s available at both Anthony’s Prime Steak & Seafood and in a mini version which we love at Anthony’s Burgers & Brews. We dare you to try it the next time you come by.

Best Souvenir

Our Vice Shop and Essentials shop have plenty of fun things to offer from f-shirts and handbags to onesies, hats, and even Nike® brand M golf balls. But if we were going home, we thought we might take something a little unconventional. Our luxury spa, Spa Mio has something we can’t do without – candles made in signature scents! You can take home scents like Love Spell and Green Tea. These candles are hand poured and made from soy oil. The burning candles emit no toxins into the air and have a 30-hour burn time. Even better, the melted candle is warm to the touch, not hot, and can be used on the skin!

Did we miss something that you think is a best of pick at our property? Let us know!

At Studio B, our award-winning buffet, dessert is on display. In fact, it’s one of the first things guests see as they enter the buffet and a lasting memory for them as they leave.

With more than 4,000 pastry items produced in a single day just for our buffet, not including the 1,800 cookies and 40 gallons of gelato our guests consume on a daily basis, you could say, dessert certainly isn’t an after-thought for us or for our guests!

“One of the best things about our buffet is that our pastry team gets to display their pastry pieces, whether it’s a custom cake they created or hundreds of individual fruit tarts,” said Marco Cossio, Executive Pastry Chef at the M Resort. “The dessert station gives our guests a full view of our chefs’ artistic abilities, while at the same time allows them to be on stage all the time, creating fresh crepes, serving gelato and frosting cupcakes in front of our guests,” said Cossio.

A culinary art, many of the desserts served in the buffet are made in mini sizes that can be eaten in two to three bites. The purpose, of course, is to allow our guests to enjoy many different desserts. After all, Studio B offers six different kinds of cookies, 16 flavors of gelato, and more than 30 types of pastries, cakes, custards and more.

And no detail is spared when it comes to our desserts. Each chocolate mousse pastry is adorned with a candied raspberry and a chocolate swirl. Cheesecakes are drizzled in raspberry sauce. Cupcakes are topped with sprinkles, an orange peel, and gold flaked chocolate. And our signature “M” is hand-painted on many of our chocolate toppers.

If we haven’t quite gotten your mouth to water, maybe photos are needed. Take a look at some of these delicious desserts that you’ll find waiting for you inside our buffet. What’s your favorite?

With more than 50 percent of Americans drinking coffee every day, we’d say it’s a drink that’s pretty important to a lot of people. If you’ve traveled then you know that there are lots of resorts that offer coffee – the in-room coffee maker resorts, coffee-served-in-the-lobby resorts, coffee-can-only-be-ordered-by-room-service resorts and then there’s the M Resort.

Here at the M, you’ll find fresh brewed coffee inside our patisserie called Baby Cakes, a quaint coffee shop and bakery located right off our lobby and next to our guest room elevators. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill coffee shop and bakery. The coffee is brewed from whole beans that are freshly ground and prepared with just the right amount of cream, sugar, caramel, vanilla, or whatever you desire to put a spring in your step.

And it’s not just your classic Americano that is served. Baby Cakes offers selections like Café Au Lait, Café Latte, Café Mocha, Espresso, Frappe, Caramel Macchiato and so much more. Of course, there are iced coffee selections as well and a variety of assorted teas and sugar free syrup options.

Now, a morning pick-me-up wouldn’t be successful without a pastry (or two). You can select from items like fruit tarts, Italian doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, Danishes, muffins, and our personal favorite almond croissants. All are made fresh daily in our bakery. For healthy options, Baby Cakes also has a variety of fresh fruit, parfaits and oatmeal.

Baby Cakes is open Sunday-Thursday from 6 am to 10 pm and Friday and Saturday from 6 am to 11 pm.

It’s hard to imagine the holidays without thinking of mom’s cooking and those special dining traditions that take us back to our childhood during Christmastime. No wonder food is always at the center of our holiday celebrations. While the chef’s at M Resort are busy whipping up their special menus in Marinelli’s Italian Restaurant, Anthony’s Prime Steak & Seafood, Burgers & Brews and Studio B Buffet to celebrate this joyous season, we decided to take a look at holiday dining traditions in other parts of the world.

In the Philippines it is tradition to eat a sweet coconut and rice flour cake called Bibingka. The cake is lightly sweet and moist and made with rice or cassava flour and traditionally cooked over charcoal in a clay pot lined with banana leaves. Bibingka, with tasty toppings, is popular during the Christmas holiday season and is eaten after Midnight Mass on Christmas Day.

The national dish of Poland, Bigos is an amazing mélange of meats and sausages slowly braised over a bed of mellow sauerkraut. Bigos is a popular cold-weather dish that provided a handy way to use cabbage that was harvested before winter. Bigos is a favorite meal for the day after Christmas and is also popular in Lithuania and Belarus.

Dresdner Stollen is the famous fruitcake from Dresden that is sold throughout Germany during the Christmas holiday season. Dresdner Stollen is made from rich yeast dough mixed with candied fruit and almonds. Loaves are folded to symbolize the Christ child in swaddling clothes.

Conquito is a popular Christmas beverage in Puerto Rico. It has similarities to American eggnog, but the use of crème de coco or coconut milk gives it a unique island flavor. A version with eggs, known as ponche crema, is a favorite in Venezuela.

Back in the States, our dining traditions may vary by geography as well. Whether you are in the Pacific Northwest, sunny California or are blessed with a white Christmas in the east, our holiday food traditions bring us to the table with family and friends. We invite you to join us at the M Resort to enjoy one of our special meals or take some of our holiday cooking home with you and enjoy our Christmas Feast to Go. Be sure to order yours by December 19!

We look forward to welcoming you to our table at Christmastime!

The fall season has officially begun and with it, the excitement of the upcoming holidays. You may be adding the final touches to your Halloween costume and stocking up on the sweet treats, but it’s also the perfect time to let M Resort help you start planning for all the festivities.

M Resort offers a variety of dining and entertainment options to enjoy with family and friends whether you’re gathering for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanza.

This Thanksgiving, consider ordering our Thanksgiving Feasts to Go. Our delicious take-home feast offers a complete turkey dinner with all the fixings AND dessert. The package includes a soup, main courses and dessert for 10 people at a cost of only $159. You can have a gourmet Holiday meal prepared by our Chefs and use the extra time to spend with the ones you love. Be sure to place your order before November 16!

Just after Thanksgiving, M Resort will be decked out in its finest holiday décor. Stop in and enjoy the festive atmosphere with a hot chocolate or a great cup of coffee from Baby Cakes Artisan Bakery. Pair your beverage with one of our seasonal Pumpkin desserts including breads, spice cupcakes, scones and muffins as well as Pecan and Apple Pie.

You’re sure to be in a holiday mood by viewing the Gingerbread Houses that will be on exhibit from November 30 – December 21 on the Spa Level under the grand staircase. These gingerbread masterpieces will be made by Clark County School District kids who participate in the M Resort’s 2012 Gingerbread House Contest. All of the entries will be on display for everyone to enjoy.

We’ll also be hosting our annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony on the casino level near the grand staircase on December 8 at 4pm. Rabbi Sanford Akselrad from Congregation Ner Tamid will lead the lighting and prayer along with a cantor as the first candle is lit signifying the beginning of the eight-day celebration.

Later that evening, M Resort presents The King of Rock ‘N Roll Elvis Holiday and Tribute Show. Acclaimed Tribute artist Steve Connolly performs the legendary hits and holiday favorites in this family friendly concert starting at 7:30pm. Tickets are just $19.50 and $29.50 plus LET and are on sale now at the M Resort Box office and at ticketmaster.com.

We look forward to welcoming you to the M for great food, entertainment and holiday cheer!
