DJ Sandman Makes His Mark Inside Ravello Lounge

Enter Sandman…DJ Sandman that is, the newest resident DJ inside Ravello Lounge. Known among friends, family and colleagues as Simon Sanchez, his audiences know him as DJ Sandman.

“I got the name because early in my music career I never slept. I started my career in radio. I would DJ a morning show and then work in the station’s sales department. After a full day, I would DJ at night; starting at around midnight. I’d come home, take a nap for an hour or two and then start my day again.”

No stranger to hard work, Sanchez began his DJ career when he was about 14 years old working at all his high school’s proms, homecomings and student government events. Eventually, he branched out to weddings and Christmas parties. By 18, he had started his own DJ company.

Born in Las Vegas, Sanchez moved with his family to Lake Havasu City, Arizona because his father wanted them to grow up in a smaller city. But Sanchez had dreams bigger than his small city and the day he turned 21 was the day he called Las Vegas home. “Literally, on the very day I turned 21 I packed my bags and moved back to Vegas.”

Today, Sanchez DJs all around the world, but he still calls Las Vegas home. “I love DJing in Vegas. It’s a great mix of locals and tourists and every night you never know what you’re going to get and every weekend is a different vibe.”

You can catch DJ Sandman inside Ravello Lounge every Friday (starting at 8:30 pm) and Saturday (starting at 9 pm).

Get to Know DJ Sandman

M Blog: What types of music can people expect to hear when they come to see you?

DJ Sandman: A great mix of old school songs with new school beats. One of my favorite mixes, and a crowd favorite too, is Michael Jackson’s classic “Billie Jean” mixed with Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’”

MB: Rockstar moment?

DJS: At the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas. I was doing a DJ gig there and the minute I stepped off the plane they had someone waiting for me and a limo to the hotel. I thought “wow, this is cool!” It was great and the crowd loved the music; definitely one of the high points of my career.

MB: Place you’d like to DJ?

DJS: Definitely Miami or Germany. From an artist’s standpoint, both places have well-known music scenes; Miami hosts the Winter Music Conference every year so it’s definitely the place to be if you’re a DJ.

MB: What’s on your playlist right now?

DJS: Truly, a mix of everything. I love music; all kinds. I think you have to appreciate and listen to all types of music to be able to please a crowd.
