Inaugural Hollywood Poker Open
Next weekend marks the premiere of the Penn National Gaming Hollywood Poker Open Championship which will be held right here at the M Resort and guarantees a prize pool of $500,000. Participants have earned seats all over the country including Hollywood Casino Charles Town, West Virginia and Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg, Indiana among many others. M Resort held a kick-off tournament this past January which drew a full house (no pun intended) and we’re expecting another big turnout June 28 – 30 for the championship. We sat down with Salinda Conklin, Vice President of Casino Operations, and David Cox, Director of Table Games, to get the facts on this exciting inaugural tournament.
Q: How many players do you expect in the tournament?
A: We’re anticipating 400 plus players.
Q: Are there any qualifications for this tournament?
A: No qualifications, players are able to buy their seats or they can win a seat like at our Super Satellite Saturday tournaments. The last tournament is this Saturday starting at 1pm with a $125 buy-in.
Q: Can players enter at the last minute? If so, what’s the buy-in?
A: Absolutely! Cards are in the air at 11:15am on Friday, June 28. Buy-in is $2,500.
Q: When can players register for the tournament?
A: Pre-registration begins at 3pm on Thursday, June 27 until 9pm. We’ll reopen the registration desk at 8am on Friday morning before tournament play begins.
Q: How many chips does each player get with their entry fee?
A: 30,000 chips
Q: What kind of poker will be played in the tournament?
A: No Limit Hold ’em
Q: Is there a re-buy for players after they’re knocked out of the tournament?
A: Players can re-enter the tournament at $2,500 up until level six. After that, we’ll have side tournaments going with buy-ins starting at $100. These games will be going in the Milan Ballroom alongside the main event.
Q: How much do you think the winning pot will be?
A: First place will be a minimum of $120,000.
Q: Are you expecting any poker celebrities for this tournament?
A: Yes! William Kopp, Anthony Yeh, Douglas Farmer, and Charles Ambrogi are all expected to play.
Q: Are people able to watch the event?
A: Yes, spectators are allowed, but it will be standing room only (and must be age 21 or over.)
Q: Are there any special room rates available for players staying at our resort?
A: Yes, definitely! We have a special rate of $115 per night for our players. If guests email firstname.lastname@example.org, we can get them set up. Also, we can answer any other questions through this email.
