As an avid Sushi fan, I do agree with all the above.

Always sit at the Sushi bar instead of a table, if possible.

I will skip the paper check box order form and talk to the chef directly instead.

It varies widely, but its considered gracious to share your drinks with the chef or buy them a drink. Ask them. Then say KOMPIE with gusto to make a toast.

All sushi bars have Miso soup, a light, tasty way to start a meal. Sometimes I get the regular soup with tofu, Thursday I had the deluxe version with Baby Clams.

I always have Tamago for my last order, essentially dessert. Its a baked egg custard, served with rice Nigiri style. Some Sushi snobs (Not me) order this first at a new place, to test the skill of the Chef as any slob can put a piece of fish on a slab of rice, where making Tamago takes skill.

Never order a California Roll at a real Sushi bar, its considered bad form. Order real Crab (Kani) instead.
