Yearly Archives: 2011
The Thanksgiving holiday is our annual opportunity to feast on turkey, catch up with family and friends, watch a little football, get a head start on holiday shopping and of course give thanks. We asked our M Team Members what they are thankful for this year and below are some of their answers.
I'm so thankful for this Thanksgiving because my family is always there to support each other. With all the economic problems, I've been blessed that I still have a wonderful job, family and friends. Thanks to almighty God for giving me these abundant blessings. Peace to everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!
I am most thankful for the strength that my daughter, also named Dorcas, has. She has not had an easy life. She was born with Hirschsprung's disease and had to endure multiple surgeries up to the age of 9 to correct it.
At the age of 16 she was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to have a lung removed. If that wasn't enough, at the age of 20 she had a bout with ovarian cancer and had major surgery. She has been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and she is only 23 years old.
My daughter has never complained at anytime about what she has had to go through. She has done nothing but worry about how her family was holding up. My daughter works three different jobs and one of those is being a caretaker for others. She lives in Buffalo, NY and never lets the cold bother her.
She is coming to see me in November and as a treat for her I am taking her to Disneyland – her first trip to California ever. As a parent, watching a child suffer is the worst but she has taught me so much and I would be so lost without her.
I'm thankful for my family, my friends and life. Most of all I am thankful for my job because I was granted a second chance and there are always people who support me.
Victor H. C.
I thank God for my family, my children and the blessing of having such an excellent job. I hope you are able to spend a day giving thanks for your family and everything you have like I am.
This year I am thankful that my sister in Texas is doing better. She has been treated for cancer in her right arm. I am also thankful that all of my grandkids are doing well.
I want to say I'm thankful because I have a beautiful family and I have the opportunity to be alive and see my daughter grow up. I have a very good job with amazing coworkers and managers and I have a wonderful God who supports my family and my whole life every single day.
I am thankful for my job and all the wonderful people I work with everyday.
I am thankful for my family and friends. I am also thankful for the new people I meet here at work and to have a job I enjoy.
I'm thankful that all my family has their health and we all have a home when so many do not.
I am thankful for the chance to work in this beautiful hotel.
I thank God for everyday of my life, for the amazing family I have and for giving me the job I have.
I am thankful for everyone at the M Resort for giving me a job. I am really happy to work here with all of my coworkers.
I am thankful for my health, still being here on Earth, working at M for the third Thanksgiving. I am also thankful for being able to smile and laugh with my coworkers.
Fourteen years ago my daughter was born with a heart condition and was given a 25% chance of living. Today she is a strong and healthy child. Eight years ago my husband was nearly killed in a car accident, and today he is much healthier than ever. I am thankful for those things as well as my job, my home, my family and friends. I thank God today and forever.
We would like to wish all our readers a very happy Thanksgiving and a special thank you to our Team Members for their submissions. We encourage you to share what you're thankful for in our blog comments below.
What's the first place you enter in at a resort? Chances are it's the lobby. One of the initial impressions many of our guests experience after walking through the front doors under our porte-cochere is taking in the modern elegance found in our lobby. Our lobby is outfitted with many notable architectural facets including water features, a wide and bright glass ceiling and a captivating display of calla lilies.
If you've been to our resort you know the calla lily display draws the most attention. From guests posing next to the flowers to those trying to smell and touch them (they aren't real, by the way) it's a feature of our lobby that can't be overlooked.
The calla lilies display consists of two large, sectioned trellises that bisect the lobby area creating a focal point for the room. The two stainless steel trellis wall panels consist of 40 sections that each contains calla lilies. Every trellis is five sections high and four sections across for a total of 20 sections per side. Each section has approximately 19 to 21 calla lilies giving our lobby's display over 800 total lilies.
The display features hundreds of calla lilies. One of the secrets to our lilies looking ideal everyday is that they're faux. The faux flowers were custom designed for our resort and hand made from silk. Even though they're made of silk, the next time you're near our lilies take a deep breath and see what you smell. Our calla lilies and lobby area are scented with one of our four signature scents used around property.
The next time your find yourself in our lobby take a second to smell the roses calla lilies. If you have a great photo of our lilies, feel free to share it on our Facebook page or stop and take one during your next visit.
If you're hosting a fabulous holiday bash but want to stay within or under your budget this year our party planning experts at M are here to help you. Our Catering Manager Tina Randall offers a few key tips to keep in mind when party planning. Trust us she knows it all, after all, planning memorable events are all in a day's work for her.
- Saturdays tend to be the most popular day. Try booking your party on a Friday or even better, Monday-Thursday.
- Select a venue that provides some type of holiday d?cor; decorations can add up quickly.
- Depending on the menu for your guests, sometimes plated dinners are more cost effective in a banquet setting than a buffet.
- Choose a venue that doesn't charge a room rental fee and won't charge for power usage for your DJ.
- Go for a venue that does not charge extra for tables, chairs, linens, dance floor, etc. The less extras that are added to the price, the lower you can keep your budget.
- Ask about discounted room rates for your guests. When booking an event, resorts are usually willing to work with you to accommodate guests overnight.
- Choose a venue with access to an outdoor area so your guests don't have to leave your party to smoke in a casino or other designated areas.
- Ask for a quote with all taxes, gratuities and additional fees included so you can anticipate the grand total of the event.
- If you have a specific budget, don't be afraid to ask what can be afforded within the limits of your budget. Event planners are there to help you stay within the means for your party.
The best part of all is that these tips are things we offer to our guests who are planning an event at M. If we've piqued your interest, take a look at the different venues we have to host your holiday party. Tina, or one of our other catering Team Members would be happy to assist with your holiday or special event. You can contact our catering department by emailing catering@theMresort.com.
There may be 12 days of Christmas and eight nights in Hanukkah but there is only one day of amazing savings happening at Spa Mio this holiday season. Our four-star spa and salon is here to help you with a little something for everyone on your shopping list. On Friday November 25 (the day after Thanksgiving) they will hold their 2nd Annual Black Friday Sale. When we said deep discounts, we meant it! When you buy one spa service you get a second for free (that's right, absolutely no charge for that second bit of relaxation). Stock up on all your beauty products needs, all full-priced retail items will be buy one, get one free. Even favorites like Moroccan Oil, K?rastase, Jane Iredale and more. Many of our spa products will also be on sale. Spa Mio will have Obagi Skincare products starting at only $5 and Oka.b Sandals (those comfy sandals you get to wear during your spa treatment) will start at $9!
All that holiday shopping on Black Friday can be stressful, so during your visit to Spa Mio we (strongly) suggest stocking up on gift cards. Who doesn't like buying a $50 gift card for only $35. That's $15 you're saving for every gift card you buy! Gift cards to the spa are always the perfect present and who says you can't pick up one for yourself, after all the shopping you'll be doing you deserve it!
There are a lot of choices when it comes to meeting space in the city of Las Vegas. In fact, Las Vegas has more than 10.5 million square feet of exhibit space! For our part, we currently offer 60,000 square feet of meeting space and if you've ever wandered around the spa level of M (below our casino floor) you may have noticed how convenient our meeting space is to our guest room elevators and the ideal flow our space offers for breakouts, general sessions and catered events. Our resort has a 17,000 square foot ballroom and multiple meeting rooms to house groups of 50 to 2,000. Our talented team can also turn any of our restaurants into magical spaces for special events or even our outdoor pool piazza that can accommodate up to 6,000 people!
Over the course of the last year two years we've been fortunate to host groups large and small with a demand for even more space! So, next month we'll be providing more of that much-needed extra space with the opening of the M Pavilion. The Pavilion will add 25,000 square feet of flexible space to our portfolio. It will provide enough space for concerts, large-scale galas, exhibitors and more. The Pavilion will have 45-foot ceilings and can hold a seated concert for up to 3,000 people. For more details we went in search of our Vice President of Sales, Drew Varga. Watch the video to hear what he had to say about the new M Pavilion and most importantly, why you should consider if for your next event!
One of the things we love about our blog is the opportunity to showcase our Team Members who truly are the heart and soul of our resort. We've profiled many of them and shared their unique stories, but today we're proud to acknowledge two of our Team Members who were recently recognized for their exceptional work. They went above and beyond their normal call of duty to save a guest's life.
Security Manager Dana Bell and Security Officer Manny Silvas have been recognized by the Las Vegas Security Chiefs Association (LVSCA) as the November Professionals of the Month. They received their award on Thursday, November 3 during the association's monthly meeting. Dana and Manny are responsible for saving the life of a guest in September by performing CPR for 10 minutes and utilizing an AED (automated external defibrillator).
Their award was no easy feat; nominations for the prestigious recognition are reviewed by the Board of Directors of LVSCA. The decision of measuring excellence is a difficult one since almost everything is expected of security officers on a daily basis and as part of their job requirements. "In this specific incident the guest was without a pulse and the officers could have easily given up but they did not," said Maria Tamayo-Soto, Executive Director of Security, Surveillance and Safety at M Resort. "They did everything and anything they could do to keep this guest going until rescue arrived."
Both Dana and Manny and all our security personnel go through CPR training every two years with refresher courses periodically before their shifts begin in CPR, AED and other safety techniques. We are happy to have Dana and Manny as part of our team at M and would like to congratulate them on their award.
Get your entertainment fix in Ravello Lounge on Friday and Saturday nights! With a calendar full of different acts we're excited to announce our next headliner for the month of November! Starting this Friday, our lounge is taking a trip back to the 80's with nostalgia band, Loveshack. They'll be performing all your favorites from back in the day and rocking the stage until 1am! They're known as being the first 80's tribute group of its kind in the country.
We caught up with the band (in character of course) to give you the down low on their act.
How many members are there in Loveshack?
There are six of us total. Imagine seeing Devo and Madonna on lead vocals, Adam Ant on Bass, Billy Idol on drums and Slash on guitar at the same time, but then we up the ante when Michael Jackson shows up in our second set! Whenever we play, you're seeing the best band on stage at that moment!
What type of music do you perform?
All the best dance music of the 80′s – music to remind you how big your hair was, how cool Members Only jackets were, and how much Aqua Net you used in 1985.
What are the band's favorite songs?
Are there any particular artists that inspire your performances?
We are totally self inspired and extremely modest, when you see the band play you’ll know what we mean.
Have you always been 80's music fans?
Since the 1970′s
How long has the group been together?
Since Madonna was still a virgin.
Our tour buses crashed into each other at the US festival in ’83 all trying to get the VIP parking spot. While waiting for AAA, we planned world domination through 80′s music, and thus Loveshack was born!
What's the best part of performing at M and Ravello Lounge?
Aside from having a great dance floor, great drink specials, friendly bar staff, enthusiastic crowds, and one of the most beautiful lounges in Las Vegas, it has lots of glass so we can constantly look at ourselves!
You can catch Loveshack performing in Ravello Lounge every Friday this November beginning at 9pm.
For a true Vegas experience you have to ride in style. Sure limos and big SUVs are perfect for your average ride around the city and pick up from the airport but when you're ready to cruise around Las Vegas and turn a few heads (the right ones that is) it's all about top of the line luxury. There's really no better option than one of the most luxurious cars in the world. Among M's collection of exclusive vehicles are Maybachs. M is one of only a few resorts in Las Vegas to have these exclusive cars available.
Each Maybach vehicle is hand-built with the most opulent materials. The spacious and lavish rear passenger accommodations are what set it apart from most other automobiles. The rear seats recline and are outfitted with tray tables for laptops, a small fridge, TVs and even pillows stuffed with Andorran hummingbird feathers (if that's not luxury we don't know what is). The car is also outfitted with a 21-speaker surround sound system, not that you'll need it since the vehicle delivers a silent and serene ride for its passengers.
Aside from its luxurious accommodations, these automobiles pack a pretty powerful punch when it comes to performance. They travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in five seconds and have a top speed of 155 miles per hour. That's all thanks to the Maybach's twin-turbocharged V12 engine. As a passenger you can watch the acceleration happen for yourself, our Maybachs have ceiling-mounted gauges that display the speed, time and outside temperature in the rear cabin area.
So how does one get chauffeured around in such a lavish vehicle? Talking to your Casino Host would be a good start. Maybachs and the other vehicles in M's fleet are available as comps to our best players. If Maybachs aren't your style, we also have a full fleet of limos and SUVs.

Let our spa help you transform into a glamorous old-Hollywood movie star, a modern day reality TV star or anything else you can dream up.
Bring the white pleated dress and Spa Mio will do the rest for your look.
The experts at Spa Mio started our model's Marilyn transformation by curling her hair with a large barrel curling iron.
The curls were then sprayed with a long lasting hold hair spray and pinned up to cool during the make-up application.
Our model went for the classic Marilyn glamour look with a nude-toned eye makeup and false lashes.
The look was completed with Marilyn's signature red lips and beauty mark.
Get your leopard dress and rhinestone glasses ready for one of the hottest costumes this year, Snooki from MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”
Our Snooki model started with her makeup application. Dark eye makeup was used to accentuate the eyes.
The next step was to give our model that freshly spray tanned glow that Snooki is known for. We layered on the bronzer to get the full guido-look.
We then got our models hair ready for Snooki's signature hair poof. We used a flat iron to straighten all the hair.
A portion of her hair near the crown of her head was sectioned off and the teased with a teasing comb. The hair was then sprayed with hair spray and smoothed back and pinned into a poof.
Snooki's look was completed with a light pink gloss for the lips.
These are just two examples of the different looks Spa Mio's professional hair and makeup artists can do for the Halloween season. Make your appointment for Halloween hair and makeup by calling 702.797.1800.
